OVERVIEW
Our mission trip to Tucson invites our church to serve in a unique borderland community shaped by rich Native American and Mexican cultural influences. Just 60 miles from the U.S.–Mexico border, Tucson offers meaningful opportunities to learn about and support vulnerable families while partnering with local pastors and ministries. Our team will engage in hands on service such as homelessness outreach, food distribution, children’s programs, and community care projects throughout the city. The trip also includes cultural immersion and visits to historic sites like San Xavier del Bac Mission and Tumacácori National Historical Park, helping us better understand the deep spiritual and cultural roots of the region as we share Christ’s love with those most in need.
OUR PARTNERS
Gospel Rescue Mission is a Christ centered ministry in Tucson dedicated to welcoming the hungry, hurting, and homeless with compassion, dignity, and the hope of the Gospel. Located at the H.S. Lopez Family Foundation Center of Opportunity—a collaborative campus housing over 30 partner organizations—they provide holistic services that address the needs of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Their programs include emergency shelter, meals, clothing, recovery support, employment coaching, education, and pathways to permanent housing. By building authentic relationships and surrounding guests with spiritual, emotional, and practical support, Gospel Rescue Mission helps individuals and families move from crisis to stability and ultimately toward long term transformation through Christ.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING
We will GO and SEE what Gospel Rescue Mission does through their comprehensive outreach and transformation programs, such as:
- Shelter & Stabilization Services: Touring the Center of Opportunity to see how guests are welcomed, receive meals, complete needs assessments, and develop individualized plans toward stability.
- Recovery Ministry: Learning how the Christ centered recovery program walks with men and women overcoming addiction, trauma, and emotional barriers through coaching, classes, and supportive community.
- Employment & Education: Observing how job readiness advocates help guests pursue steady employment through life skills classes, GED support, resume preparation, interview coaching, and workforce placement.
- Housing Pathways: Hearing how staff connect guests with permanent housing solutions, financial planning, transportation assistance, and home essential resources through their Donation Center.
- Collaborative Care Model: Seeing how 30+ partner organizations provide medical, dental, mental health, veterans services, children’s support, and more—all in one centralized campus.
We will SERVE in various hands on ministry activities, such as:
- Meal Service: Assisting in the dining area by greeting guests, serving meals, plating food, bussing tables, cleaning, and offering prayer and encouragement.
- Donation Center Support: Sorting and preparing clothing, hygiene kits, household items, and furniture to bless families transitioning into stable housing.
- Guest Engagement: Building relationships with residents through conversation, prayer, listening, and offering hope as representatives of Christ’s love.
- Campus Support Projects: Helping with light facility work, organization tasks, or preparation projects that assist the ministry in serving guests more effectively.
We hope to LEARN best practices in how to:
- Develop ministries that serve the homeless and underserved with dignity, compassion, and the love of Christ.
- Strengthen programs in our own community that provide food, clothing, recovery support, and pathways to stability.
- Build holistic, collaborative, Christ centered approaches to ministry that address spiritual, practical, and relational needs.
- Engage in a Q&A session with Gospel Rescue Mission leaders, staff, and volunteers to hear their stories, ask questions, and gain insights that will strengthen our ministries at Grace Place, Church Under the Bridge, and beyond.
We will have FUN Time maybe exploring the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, and the Tucson Museum of Art.
