Overview

Dallas is the 9th largest city by population in the United States. And if you add in the metropolitan areas, it becomes the 4th largest metropolitan area in the United States. What this means is that there is a lot of need and a lot of opportunity to love, learn and serve. There are an estimated 6,000-10,000 homeless and one of every five people lives in poverty. 23% of the south Dallas population lives below the poverty line. More than 60,000 people live in public housing. Dallas has more churches per capita than any other American city, but it also has the worst overall crime rate for cities with more than 1 million people.

Partners

We will have the opportunity to serve with this amazing fate-based organization:
Buckner International (in Dallas) and Missions Arlington (in Arlington). Buckner International, is a faith-based ministry that seeks to serve vulnerable children, families, and seniors in the Dallas area and overseas in many countries. We will be working with their Family Hope Center that is a child-centered, family-focused place where families go to find hope, support, and empowerment in their community to reach their fullest God-given potential. Since Buckner is planning to establish a Family Hope Center here in El Paso it is important that we go and learn and get insight of ways we can serve once they are here.

What will you be doing?

  • At Buckner International we will be doing a variety of things that may include:
    • Processing/sorting shoes or socks, packing school supplies, packing feminine hygiene Kits, holiday gifts etc.
    • Packing and sorting food that we then hand out during the distribution.
    • Assist with homework/tutoring, life skills, and games
    • Minister to children, and families
    • Teaching Bible lessons VBS format
    • Evangelism outreach to parents, sports, games, arts, etc.

  •  We will plan on visiting Six Flags in Dallas and potentially SeaWorld in San Antonio.
