covid-19 guidelines

Pastor’s Announcement – November 25, 2020

First Baptist Church will resume live, in-person worship services on Sunday, November 29, 2020. We believe that the time is now for us to resume these services and ask that you consider the following as you make your decision as to whether you will attend online or in-person.

First, please be aware that medical authorities warn about the risks of infection and transmission of the virus due to family gatherings associated with the Thanksgiving holiday. Given the short time between Thanksgiving and the service on November 29th, we ask you to exercise great caution and discretion if you plan on attending church services.

Second, we will be vigilant in applying social distancing and mask-wearing standards already in place. We will continue to adhere to the protocols you were asked to follow when we last met for in-person worship.

Third, we WILL NOT include small-group Bible Study classes (i.e., Sunday School) on this date (11/29/20). We hope to open those opportunities within the next week or two, but for this week, please plan on continuing with your online Sunday School classes.

We look forward to this regathering. Please do not feel any pressure to attend. If you are not comfortable with coming together again at this time, we encourage you to wait until such time as you deem appropriate for your return.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Mark Rotramel, Sr. Pastor

guidelines for reopening

The guidelines given below will be followed as FBCEP moves into our second phase of reopening effective Sunday, October 4, 2020.

1. Worship Service in the sanctuary will be held from 9:00 am. – 10:00 am. We will continue to exercise extreme diligence to minimize the opportunity for exposure to COVID-19. We will gather in a manner that is consistent with social distancing guidelines, along with requirements of temperature taking and wearing of masks. We recognize that a portion of our church will not be able or willing to gather yet. For our members who are considered high risk and for those who do not feel comfortable returning at this time, we will continue to provide an online opportunity for you to worship with us until you are comfortable returning to the church building. We will also continue to have our regular Sunday broadcast at 8:00 am. on Channel 38. We do not want to leave anyone behind in any stage of this reopening process. Your church staff and leadership are committed to meeting your need for worship, regardless of whether you are on campus or online. No Sunday evening or Wednesday evening Bible study groups will meet at this time.

2. Adult Small Group Bible Study (Sunday School) will continue to meet in a variety of ways. Many of these groups are continuing to thrive through online gatherings. Several of our small groups have begun to meet on campus in socially-distanced rooms after our morning Worship Service. The majority of the groups meeting on campus also have a virtual component to their meeting time so people can join them remotely. Please go to the Small Groups page to get more detailed information.

3. Youth Sunday School will meet at 10:15 am. for those students meeting in person. There will also be a virtual option at 10:30 am.

4. FBC Children’s Ministry is making every effort to provide a safe environment as we move to our next step of opening on Sunday mornings. We are continuing to pray about and monitor the COVID-19 numbers in the El Paso community. Please continue to keep an eye on our website for updates. The FBC Childcare Team, Building Services Team, Ministers and Staff are taking all precautions to maintain a safe environment for families and our teachers. Governmental and health official’s guidelines will be followed to minimize exposure to Covid-19. This will include mask wearing, temperature checking, social distancing, and hand-washing. We are so happy to see those families that are ready to be in our building, but for those families that are not ready, please continue to enjoy our virtual services and Bible studies. The Zoom Sunday school for 1st to 3rd will remain at 10:30 a.m. 4th and 5th grade will meet at 10:15. We will continue the mailing of material to preschool and children to enjoy with their families a time of Bible study or short devotion at home. Click here for specific Practices & Procedures for our Preschool & Children's Ministry.

5. College Sunday School will begin with a hybrid class. College students will have the option to continue meeting via zoom or come to FBC to participate in a face to face class. For those attending face to face, face masks will be required, and social distancing will be practiced. No food or drinks will be provided at this time. The hybrid class will begin at 10:30am and we look forward to reconnecting with everyone!

6. Ministry Gatherings will continue to be considered by the full staff and handled on an individual basis. Any meetings or ministry activities allowed will function in a manner in keeping with social distancing guidelines.

Thank you for helping to take care of our church family by abiding by our procedures. As a staff, we continue to pray together and research best practices in our COVID-19 environment. Please continue to watch our website for any updates.
